Ryan Gander: The Idea of Japan British conceptual artist Ryan Gander is “big in Japan”. It’s a visually sophisticated country, and they appreciate his frequently playful works that may look like one thing, but often mean something quite different. In this film the artist explores Japanese visual culture through symbols, including the geisha, samurai and cherry blossom to find out what they reveal about their past, present and future. Part of BBC Four's Japan season
